Fatal shooting in Smyth County, Virginia ruled self-defense
A final review into a fatal shooting in Saltville, Virginia in January has resulted in no charges being filed by the Smyth County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.
A report from the sheriff’s office said an argument between James McCloud and his girlfriend became physical at their home on Roberts Chapel Road where McCloud was found dead at the scene.
Police said there was a domestic history between the two dating back to their time living in Alabama and the fatal shot was fired in self-defense.
McCloud’s blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of his death, according to investigators.
