ETSU head football coach Randy Sanders announces retirement
East Tennessee State University head football coach Randy Sanders announced his retirement during his weekly press conference on Monday.
His decision came two days after the Bucs’ magic run in the NCAA FCS playoffs came to a stop in the Fargodome Saturday with a loss to North Dakota State.
Sanders noted ETSU president Brian Noland and the athletic administration made a tempting financial offer to stay on with the program he took over four years ago but he said he was at peace with the decision to spend more time with family.
Sanders came to Johnson City after serving as co-offensive coordinator at Florida State winning a national championship in Tallahassee. Prior to that, he was on the offensive staff at the University of Tennessee when the Vols won the national title in 1998.
