Eligible Virginia residents can file for ‘cooling assistance’ through August 15

The Department of Social Services is accepting applications for cooling assistance for Virginia families through August 15th.
Requirements are based on income and the agency said qualifying families must have a household that has a child under the age of 6 or an adult over the age of 60 or an individual with a disability.
The program can also provide assistance to pay electric bills, making a security deposit for cooling equipment, repair to existing systems, or purchasing a window air conditioner unit.
