Delay sought in Sean Williams trial
The attorney for accused child rapist Sean Williams, who is also charged with a federal count of escape, has asked for a delay and change of venue in the escape case from it’s Greeneville location. He is also asking to delay Williams’ federal child pornography production case that is currently scheduled to begin May 21. The trial has been delayed twice so far. The escape occurred Oct. 18, 2023, about six weeks after Williams was indicted on three federal counts of producing child pornography. Williams was the subject of a Southeast-wide manhunt following the alleged escape and was captured in Florida last November. Attorney Joseph McAfee claims publicity surrounding Williams’s escape could jeopardize his chance at a fair trial in Northeast Tennessee. He also is asking for a delay, since Mcafee is Williams third attorney and had only been assigned the case last December.
