Coeburn Police officer recognized after saving crash victim
An officer with the Coeburn Police Department has been recognized after saving a crash victim from frigid waters Monday. The department reported Officer Brandon Meade and Lieutenant Jake Elkins responded to a crash near Old Norton Coeburn Road just after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, Meade and Elkins found the driver lost control of the vehicle, went over an embankment and nearly overturned. While Elkins managed traffic, Meade went to find the driver and discovered that the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and fallen down the hill and into the water. Officer Meade climbed down the snow-covered incline to rescue the driver, who was then treated for hypothermia.
