Coal miner advocacy group says black lung benefits inadequate with today’s economy
Research from groups that back policy change for coal miners says the current cost of living far exceeds the black lung benefit funding for eligible workers.
Several advocates including the Appalachian Citizens Law Center have contacted federal lawmakers to request a rule change in the 2025 budget to help miners make ends meet.
Estimates show black lung benefits are 30 percent lower than current financial indicators.
