Chilhowie man turns himself in after fentanyl death

An investigation into a fentanyl overdose death was resolved over the weekend. 46 year old, Joshua Maggard, of Chilhowie turned himself in at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon Sunday morning. Investigators found that he was allegedly responsible for the overdose death of 50 year old, Richard Maggard, who died on August 18, 2024. Joshua reportedly distributed fentanyl to Richard, which “directly led to the victim’s fatal overdose.” According to the sheriff’s office, Joshua Maggard is charged with felony homicide and distributing a controlled substance. He is being held without bond.
