Carter County man found guilty of murder

A jury found a man guilty on Friday of murder in Carter County. Jacob Morley was found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the 2022 death of Cody Birchfield. Morley was also found guilty of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Morley pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated burglary and theft. Experts who testified in the trial discussed their analysis of the firearm, blood, and fingerprints found at the scene. The defense argued that the killing was not premeditated.
