Carter Authorities Set To Charge Man With First Degree Murder After His Arrest In Avery County, North Carolina

Carter County authorities tell us they are charging a man with first degree murder, who is currently being housed in Avery County, N.C. after being arrested Thursday following a high speed chase. 23 year old Jacob Allen Morley will be charged with the murder of Cody Wayne Birchfield. Birchfield was reported missing on February 23. Investigators were told by witnesses, Birchfield had last been seen with Morley on February 21. Birchfield’s body was found in Morley’s residence along with other evidence indicating a violent crime occurred. Birchfield, fled Carter County authorities who were attempting to serve a warrant. Morley led law enforcement on a high speed chase that ended when spike strips stopped Morley and he was arrested.
