Big Stone Gap Slain Police Officer’s Wife Leads Procession Home
A Southwest Virginia community continues to mourn Monday, as a slain Big Stone Gap Police Officer receives a hero’s Escort home. An escort tribute honoring 29 year old Michael D. Chandler is underway at this hour. The procession, organized by first responders, and law enforcement is leaving Roanoke, where an autopsy was performed on the young officer who was gunned down on his birthday, while conducting a welfare check on an individual Saturday morning when he was shot and killed. A 33 year old Big Stone Gap man is in custody, but has yet to be charged with the murder. The procession is being led by Wise County Virginia Deputy Sheriff Natasha Smith Chandler, who is bringing her husband home.
