Announcement made for groundbreaking for Sullivan County Jail expansion

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a groundbreaking for Monday for a jail expansion project years in the making.

Commissioners voted last month to allocate $10 million in federal pandemic relief dollars to aid in the construction of the project along with $80 million in bonds.

The addition will help with the problem of overcrowding and outdated cell design that has plagued the county for decades.
