Abingdon appoints new mayor/vice mayor

Abingdon appointed a new mayor Monday night. Dwayne Anderson will succeed town council member Amanda Pillion. Pillion nominated Anderson for the role as Anderson had served as vice mayor during Pillion’s 2-year term. Anderson is now the first African American to serve as the town’s mayor. Anderson was unanimously appointed. Wayne Austin was also appointed as vice mayor by a unanimous vote. Other key town figures will remain in their roles including town manager Mike Cochran, town treasurer Tammy Baldwin, town clerk Kim Kingsley and town attorney Cameron Bell.
