JC police charge physician with aggravated rape

Johnson City police charged a physician with aggravated rape and three counts of sexual battery Tuesday after a patient reported he had raped her during an office visit . A news release from the Johnson City Police Department, said 68 year old, Dr. Atif Atyia was being held under a $50,000 bond at the Washington County Detention Center. Johnson City Police Department’s special victims unit began investigating Atyia on February 19. Due to the circumstances surrounding the crime, the JCPD is asking any other potential victims to contact Sgt. Shane Williams with the JCPD Special Victims Unit, or Crime Stoppers.
