Johnson City commissioners voted to approve a settlement in a lawsuit alleging police officers took bribes to avoid investigating convicted child rapist Sean Williams. The vote was unanimous, with multiple commissioners warning of a large financial risk if the case were to go to trial. Terms of the settlement call for the city of Johnson City to pay $28 million in exchange for the plaintiffs dismissing with prejudice all claims and allegations in the lawsuit against the Johnson City Police Department and its officers. Johnson City still faces two other lawsuits related to Williams.
