New location for Lamar Convenience Center in Jonesborough
The Washington County, Tennessee Commission took more steps toward Hurricane Helene recovery Monday. The Lamar Convenience Center on Highway 81 South in Jonesborough was wiped out by the Nolichucky River on September 27. That center was part of the solid waste department and was the primary dump for the southern portion of the county’s residents. County commissioners agreed to spend up to $1 million for the relocation of that convenience center to a property just above it, which is the former site of the highway department block. The resolution that passed during Monday’s meeting said that the county expects an $875,000 reimbursement from FEMA and TEMA for the relocation project.
