Former West Greene teacher and coach appealing 10 year sentence for statutory rape charges
A former coach and teacher at West Greene High School who pleaded guilty to statutory rape charges is out on bond while his 10 year prison sentence is appealed.
A Criminal Court judge denied a request from an attorney representing Jacob Columbus Deal, 44, for a split sentence of probation and confinement.
The judge also placed a restraining order against Deal concerning the victim in the case who told police she had sexual relations with Deal in 2021 while at West Greene.
Deal was indicted last year by a Greene County grand jury on three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and three counts of aggravated statutory rape. Deal will also be listed on Tennessee’s sex offender registry.
