Appalachian Power files paperwork to build and operator small modular nuclear reactor
Appalachian Power plans to file an application with the State Corporation Commission to construct the first of several small modular reactors as a new energy source.
APCO touted its compact size and clean power with the centers operated on nuclear energy. The company wants to build the reactor in Campbell County, Virginia.
A study has been completed on the feasibility of areas of Southwest Virginia that host those facilities. Governor Youngkin said nuclear is part of his proposed all of the above plan to supply growing power demand and commended APCO for taking the next step on Virginia’s nuclear future.
