FEMA/TEMA accepting applications for disaster assistance
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and state-level agencies like the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency are accepting applications for disaster assistance following flooding from Hurricane Helene. FEMA spokesperson Michael Hart says Residents can either call 1-800-621-3362 or go to FEMA’s website at disasterassistance.gov. And there is a FEMA app available as well. Hart said FEMA representatives will also go door to door, and some counties will have a FEMA disaster recovery center. He also noted FEMA representatives will always present credentials. Hart said it’s important for residents to contact home insurance companies first, then they can apply for FEMA assistance.
