Major fire damage at Elizabethton business
An Elizabethton business sustained “significant damage” after an early Monday morning fire. Elizabethton officials reported that crews from Elizabethton’s fire and police departments and the Carter County Rescue Squad responded to the fire around 4:50 a.m. The fire occurred at the Fatboy Fabrication business on Highway 19E. Firefighters began fighting the fire, and salvage operations for expensive vehicles inside the structure. It’s estimated those salvage operations saved approximately half a million dollars in damage. A preliminary investigation after the blaze was extinguished, determined the fire most likely started inside a metal container holding discarded solvent soaked rags.
