Governor makes flag order to honor Scott County, Virginia firefighter

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin on Friday issued an order to all state and local offices to fly their flags at half-staff to honor a Southwest Virginia firefighter.

The flag post will occur Saturday at sunrise in memory of James C. Ward, Jr., a Department of Forestry worker from Scott County who died after collapsing on the job March 30.

Ward is the 19th American firefighter to die while on the job in 2024 according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
