Washington County, VA Supervisors approve new Fire Response Plan
Beginning July 1, the Abingdon Fire Department will no longer be the first to respond to calls in Washington County, Virginia. Tuesday, the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a Fire Response Plan to help agencies transition to the change. This plan will begin April 1 and continue until July 1. This phased transition is designed to prevent any lapse in coverage. The statement also says that the Abingdon Fire Department will still receive dispatch notices, but not for first response. The county has efforts in place for personnel and a future substation to support emergency operations as the plan’s phases unfold with funding set aside in this year’s budget, and more is planned for 2025.
