Prescribed forest burning near Erwin and Watauga Lake today

Two prescribed fires today in Johnson and Washington County, TN. Wildland firefighters are expected to burn near Erwin, southwest of the Nolichucky River, along Rich Mountain Road. And in the Cook Hollow area of Johnson County, on the Northwest side of Watauga Lake near Sink Mountain Boat Ramp Rd. According to the forest officials, those near Erwin and Watauga Lake may see smoke and increased aircraft. Manned and unmanned aircraft will be used. Prescribed fires improve wildlife habitat, improve forest health, and reduce wildfire risk.
