Featured ETSU speaker from February escapes war-torn Haiti
A nationally-known sports journalist and author who had a sold out audience at an ETSU forum last month has barely escaped the country of Haiti.
Mitch Albom had to fly out in a helicopter ride arranged by a Michigan congresswoman. He told Sports Illustrated that getting to safety was a two-day journey.
More than 15,000 residents of Haiti have been forced from their homes by roving gangs. Albom and his wife operate an orphanage on the island. He was the keynote speaker at the Festival of Ideas event in Johnson City.
