Arrest made in Carter County ATM theft

A North Carolina man has been arrested and charged in connection to an ATM theft in Roan Mountain. The Carter County Sheriff’s Office investigation began after authorities found a Carter County Bank ATM knocked off its concrete foundation and broken into. Cash had been stolen and the suspect had fled. A suspect was identified on security video footage and 39 year old Jeremiah Ayers, of Green Mountain, North Carolina was arrested Wednesday. Data obtained from his cell phone after the execution of a search warrant placed him in the bank’s vicinity at the time of the robbery. Law enforcement in Yancey County North Carolina reportedly found and arrested Ayers Tuesday night. Ayers is in police custody in Yancey County while awaiting extradition. Multiple charges await Ayers upon his return to Carter County.
