Johnson City Council Approves Property Tax Hike On First Reading

Saying there is no other option to balance a budget and provide needed services the City of Johnson City needs, City Council on Thursday approved a 25 cent property tax rate on first reading. The council must approve the budget two more times before it becomes official. If and when they do, property owners will pay one dollar and 98 cents per one hundred dollars of assessed value. That would mean about 125 dollars more a year for a home owner with a home assessed at 200 thousand dollars. The proposed budget also provides raises for city staff.
