USGS detects 2.6 earthquake near Hawkins, Hancock border
The United States Geological Survey reported the measurement of a 2.6 earthquake near the Hawkins / Hancock County border Monday morning.
The data showed that the event occurred at 2:19 a.m. in the vicinity of Sneedville. It marked the fourth earthquake detected in the state of Tennessee this month.
The agency also reports that approximately 55 earthquakes occur each day and average around 20,000 around the globe each year.
