Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office adopts Community Work Program
The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office adopted a new program designed to provide alternative sentencing for non-violent offenders who would otherwise be incarcerated. Officials say the Community Work Program will save the county money and reduce taxpayer burdens.
Participants must be non-violent offenders and pass regular drug and alcohol screenings. Workers will serve Washington County by gathering litter, maintaining community centers, and working with public schools and non-profits.
