UPDATE: Jury hands down guilty verdicts on murder, carjacking in 2015 Johnson City shooting

A man who shot into oncoming traffic in Johnson City in 2015 killing a 19-year-old woman has been convicted in Criminal Court.

Earlier that evening, Denver Smith, 29, had shot his girlfriend during an argument at an apartment complex. He then ran to John Exum Parkway to carjack a vehicle and fired shots wounding Tiaria Miller who later died of her injuries.

The jury also rejected Smith’s claim of insanity in their guilty verdict.
