Three all-stars from Southwest Virginia sports elected to 2022 VHSL Hall of Fame

Two athletes and one coach who achieved greatness in Southwest Virginia are among the nine inductees announced Thursday for the 2022 Virginia High School League Hall of Fame.

Donnie Qualls of Rye Cove was tabbed as a coaching honoree. His War Eagle teams captured two volleyball state championships in the same year when volleyball moved from winter to fall. His players also captured 32 district and regional titles.

Another inductee is Luke Owens who won a national wrestling championship and two state titles at Grundy. The other athlete is Ashton Bishop Williams who capture multiple track and field state titles during her four years at Gate City.
