Class-action lawsuit filed against Eastman following steam line rupture incident
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Eastman after a steam line rupture at the chemical company sent debris, with what we now know contained asbestos, into the air and on nearby residents’ property. The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Sullivan County Circuit Court and includes claims for public and private nuisance, negligence, and trespassing.
The lead plaintiff is a Kingsport resident, Sharon Weatherly, who claims her home and surrounding homes have lost value due to the incident. Eastman officials say the company cannot comment on pending legal matters at this time, but remains committed to working with the community to the best extent possible.
