Virginia State Police investigating fatal crash in Tazewell County

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened in Tazewell County on Sunday. According to an initial report, VSP responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 19, about a half-mile North of Route 609.

The report says a vehicle was traveling South when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver, 47-year-old Roger Compton of Bluefield, West Virginia was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt, and driver fatigue is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
