Gate City Native, Basketball Standout, Mac McClung Makes History
You may have seen him play at Gate City High, or even in college. But last night, Gate City native and basketball standout Mac McClung, did something no one is southwest Virginia has done in 60 years. McClung finishing up a ten day contract with the Chicago Bulls stepped onto the court Wednesday night, against the Atlanta Hawks and drained a fifteen foot jumper as the Bulls beat the Hawks 131-117. McClung is the first player to play in the NBA since Keokee’s Jim Palmer did in1961. McClung plays for the Los Angelas Lakers G league team but was picked up by the Bulls to supplement the roster which has been hard hit by COVID19.
