Grandfather Mountain Wildfire Now Burning One Thousand Acres. Firefighters Gaining Containment
Firefighters near Grandfather Mountain in neighboring Avery County, North Carolina have contained about 60 percent of what is now being described as a one thousand acre wildfire. In an update from the U.S. Forest Service the fire located ten miles southeast of Linville, North Carolina started from unknown causes on Christmas Eve. On Wednesday, the Forest Service says firefighters are using available creeks in the area to help contain the blaze and also providing additional safety for the firefighters as they battle the wildfire.
