SCBOE Upholds Hearing Officer’s Decision On Fired Teacher
That’s Sullivan County Board of Education Chairman Randall Jones, warning and advising board members about making comments to the media and the public after the board voted Wednesday night, again 5 to one to uphold an earlier Hearing Officer’s decision that backed the schools board’s firing of former Sullivan Central High School teacher Matthew Hawn. Hawn was fired from his tenured position after he taught a lesson on White Privilege. The lesson involved literature based on a Black perspective of White Privilege connected to the controversial Critical Race Theory. Hawn has thirty days to make an appeal to Chancery Court.
