SCBE To Hear Appeal From Dismissed Teach

A Sullivan County teacher dismissed for instructing his Social Studies students about White Privilege lessons connected to Critical Race Theory will be before the County Board of Education again next week. According to information from the SCBE, a called meeting is set for Tuesday in Blountville where Matthew Hawn is expected to appeal a recent hearing officer’s ruling that upheld the school board’s decision this past summer to fire Hawn from his tenured teaching position at former Sullivan Central High School. These case has drawn national attention.
