Johnson City Commissioners OK Interlocal, Ashe Street Courthouse Agreement With Washington County
The historic Ashe Street Courthouse, located in Johnson City, but is owned by Washington County, but that is about to soon change. Thursday night, City Commissioners OK’d an already approved interlocal agreement by Washington County to transfer the building to Johnson City. The city recently was granted a five million dollar state grant to be use for refurbishing the courthouse. City officials plan to use the facility as home for the Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as other developments. The transfer is expected to take place within the next 30 to 45 days.
