Fallen Big Stone Gap Police Officer Memorialized By Mourners

He was just 29. And made the ultimate sacrifice. And on Wednesday in Wise County, hundreds turned out to honor and memorialize slain, Big Stone Gap Virginia Police Officer Michael Chandler. Chandler was remembered as someone who mattered to the community, a police officer, firefighter, a new husband, and friend. The Big Stone Gap Native, was gunned down Saturday while making a welfare check on a residence in Wise County. Law Enforcement authorities believe Chandler was shot and killed by 33 year old Michael Donivan White of South Carolina. White is being held in Abingdon awaiting extradition to Wise County and has yet to be formally charged. Officer Michael Chandler will be laid to rest this morning in Big Stone Gap.
