Report: Students face penalties following blackface incident at Gate City High

Four students at Gate City High School have been disciplined for a Homecoming Week incident that occurred on Tuesday.

Scott County Superintendent of Schools John Ferguson said names and the violations are kept confidential by system policy but a viral video and pictures posted online showed select students in blackface paint during a “country/camouflage day” themed activity.

In one of the videos, a minority Gate City student addresses the child in blackface and asks why he came to school that way. The juvenile said the minority student was an inspiration followed by laughter.
