Ballad Health currently in 16th week of COVID surge
Data supplied by Ballad Health shows the number of COVID patients during this summer’s surge fueled by the delta variant exceeded hospitalizations at the fall and winter surge of 2020.
Ballad’s information shows the region is in its 16th week treating more than 50 patients. It appears the peak during this recent surge was six weeks ago in late August when their facilities had a census of more than 400.
Ballad Chief Nursing Office Lisa Smithgall said personnel from the Tennessee National Guard are expected at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport to provide assistance to hospital staff due to high patient numbers.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 29, we are treating 324 inpatients with COVID-19. This data pertains to Ballad Health’s 21-county service area of Tennessee and Virginia.
