ETSU TRIO program receives federal funding; assists low-income and disabled students
East Tennessee State University’s federal TRIO Program was selected by the U.S. Department of Education to receive funding for two of its services over the next five years. TRIO is a federal outreach program dedicated to identifying and providing services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. It includes eight services targeted to serve low-income students and those with disabilities. One service, called the Educational Talent Search Program, was awarded over three hundred thousand dollars which will help middle and high school students prepare for college. Eligible students receive tutoring, career coaching, a variety of workshops, and more. This grant will be utilized to assist 600 residents in Hawkins, Johnson, and Sullivan counties.
