International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31
Tuesday is International Overdose Awareness Day. This is the world’s largest annual campaign to prevent and end overdoses due to substance abuse. The campaign strives to stimulate action and discussion about overdose prevention and drug policy. The Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition has teamed up with the Elizabethton Public Library to host an education and training day for locals. This event will include a memorial for loved ones lost to addiction, free Naloxone training and kits, free medication lock boxes, and resources for prevention and treatment. The event happens Tuesday from 3 PM to 6 at the Carter County/Elizabethton Public Library.
